Margaret Cushing Lavoie, Esq., is the managing partner of the law firm LAVOIE LAW in Portland, Maine, where she concentrates her practice in all areas of family law.  Ms. Lavoie graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern Maine in 1984 and cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law in 1987.   She has served on the Board of Directors of Kids First, the Maine School of Law Alumni Association where she also served on the Executive Committee, and is a member of the Cumberland Bar Association, the Maine State Bar Association, the New Hampshire Bar Association, and the America Bar Association. 

Ms. Lavoie is a member of the Family Law Section of the Maine Bar Association, where she formerly served as chairperson and is currently the sections' representative on the Family Law Advisory Commission to the state legislature.   She also serves on the Judicial Evaluation Committee to the Maine State Bar Association.  Ms. Lavoie is a Fellow in the Maine Bar foundation and a supervisor of the Volunteer Lawyer Project's Family law help line.  She is a Team Leader and Senior Lawyer in the Edward Gignoux Inns of Court.   Ms. Lavoie is a founding member of Maine's chapter of the American Academy for Certified Financial Litigators and serves on the Advisory Committee of the organization. 

In 2015, Ms. Lavoie was awarded the Family Law Achievement Award from the Maine State Bar Association for her significant contributions to the welfare of Maine's families.   She has been named a Best Lawyer in America in the specialty of family law every year since 2009 and in 2015 was awarded the Best Lawyer of the Year in her practice area.   She has extensive trial experience in complicated custody and financial issues as well as significant mediation and arbitration experience
